School Based & Educational Programming
Elementary Second Step
The Evidenced Based Second Step program is one of the most widely used Social Emotional Learning programs in the United States. The universal, classroom-based program promotes the development of students’ social-emotional competence and Self-Regulation Skills. Students with these skills are better able to maintain healthy relationships with peers and adults and have more coping strategies to manage stressful situations. Thanks to The United Way the program is provided free of charge to elementary schools within Rowan County – serving over 1,000 kids each year. For more information, contact Leah Silverburg.
Early Learning Second Step
Helping our littlest learners harness their potential by teaching them Skills for Learning, Empathy, Emotion Management, Friendship Skills, and Problem-Solving. When students enter kindergarten with the social-emotional skills taught with the evidenced-based Second Step Early Learning curriculum, they are set up for success. We provide the lessons in Head Start, NC Pre K, and daycare centers in Rowan and surrounding counties – teaching well over 1,000 lessons each year. Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program (APPP)
Focuses on reducing teen pregnancies in North Carolina. Through the use of evidence-based comprehensive sexuality education programs, such as FLASH or the 3 R’s, adolescents will be empowered with the information they need to make healthy decisions about their emotional and physical well-being, while exploring healthy relationships, decision-making and peer pressure among other topics. This program is offered at various sites within the community for youth ages 13-19. Submit a referral here. For additional information, contact Krystle Edwards .
